679 and 910 are not unsigned 8 bit integers

Maybe the writer should have just agreed with the government rep. 'The Internet is just a bunch of tubes' instead of explaining it incorrectly. I have no idea how a company who's sole purpose is networking could make a mistake like this.

DNS is a lookup table similar to the dewey decimal system used in the library. Internally the library uses 3 digit numbers where humans use words to describe a collection of books on a topic. For DNS the numbers are IP Addresses and the words are Domain Names. But where the Dewey decimal puts you on the street, DNS brings you to the door.

IP addresses come in two forms the more commonly used IPV4 and the newer IPV6. IPV4 is given as a series of four sets of 8 bit numbers in network byte order represented to normal humans as an unsigned integer with valid values ranging from 0 - 255. Numbers such as 256,679 or 910 are invald. IPV6 is the same, except there are six sets of 8 bit numbers.

Valid 8 bit integer value ranges -
signed (1111 1111 to 0111 1111) (-127 to 127)
unsigned (0000 0000 to 1111 1111) (0 to 255)

11/11/2011 11:11:11 is a string value. For UNIX timeclock the integer value is 1321009871 and the binary value in Little Endian form is 01001110101111010000001011001111.

* 11/11/11 11:11:11 converts to a negative integer value that exceeds the bounds of the 32 bit unsigned int used on UNIX (data overflow). Year 11 = 0011 and is almost 2 thousand years before the UNIX timeclock was conceived.

Apple's Biggest Mistake

In the same way that Microsoft beat Apple at it's own game.
  • Variety of form factors
  • Vastly greater hardware platforms
  • Lower price

Android will be the next 'Windows' while adding to the equation.
  • Open Operating System

Maybe without Steve Jobs arrogance and ignorance Apple will finally wake he FK up and license it's OS to hardware makers, or history WILL repeat itself.

I've been reflecting on Apple and everything I saw and learned from. I began laughing at how Steve Job never learned from his own biggest mistake. If the Mac OS was licensed in 1985 we wouldnt even remember Microsoft today. IBM would have been removed from the equation by 1990. All Steve had to do was lose that I want to control everything attitude and he would have crushed IBM and had microsoft writing his compilers for him. Thanks for all have done Steve.
